What Is SBR?

SBR stands for Sequencing Batch Reactor. The SBR consists of a minimum of two chambers.

Pretreatment Chamber - this is where the influent is held until it is moved to the reactor. Primary settling occurs in this chamber.

Reactor Chamber - this is where the Clear Rex Bubbler is located. The microprocessor controls the times and amounts of aeration that optimize the fully biological process that cleans the water.

The SBR process consists of five stages:

Fill - the influent is moved from the pretreatment to the reactor.

React - the water undergoes a series of aerobic and anaerobic processes to break down BOD, TSS, and TN.

Settle – the water in the reactor sits still, allowing the flocs to settle to the bottom.

Decant - the clear water is drawn from the top portion of the reactor to either the drainfield or further treatment.

Idle – the system waits for the next cycle to begin.

Benefits of SBR

  • Fully biological
  • No filters or fixed media
  • Energy efficient
  • Simple troubleshooting
  • Reliable and durable
  • Low operating costs
